Chinese Take Out
2011
Overview
The installation was a group show that exchanged a work of art from emerging New York artist with an object from a participating Chinatown restaurant. The curator was interested in investigating the notion of home and what it means when you are living thousands of miles from yours.
The nature of this project meant that it was going to be critical for us to help the viewers find, navigate to and learn about the artists and locations while they were on the go. We decided to forgo any printed material and just make a website that would also be mobile friendly.
The website gave viewers full descriptions of the project, artists, and restaurants. It also embedded Google maps for each location so the user could quickly get from location to location. We also took advantage of some social media integration and allowed viewers to Tweet the installation, or check in to the restaurants with Foursquare. The project was over a year in the making and the response from the community was overwhelmingly positive.
